Radio Show

Citizens,
I have actually listened to my good friends Kenneth Quinnell and Sinfonian over at Blast off and got my own radio show over on blogtalkradio.com. The inaugural voyage is Wednesday evening at Six, and as soon as I know who the guest is citizens, I will let you know. The Name of the show is Rated "R" Revolution, and if nothing else, it should be fun. Would be most appreciative if you would listen. That is all.

President Clinton to Receive Honorary Doctorate From FAMU

It has been announced that Former President Bill Clinton will be receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane letters from Florida A&M University (FAMU) President James H. Ammons at the spring 2009 commencement exercise. The FAMU Board of Trustees meet to raise the issue and the board unanimously approved the recommendation.

President Ammons commented on the topic. “We are honored to present President Clinton with a doctorate of humane letters from FAMU," "His years of service to our country and selfless service in the fight against HIV/AIDS, global warming and economic opportunity have made him more than a suitable nominee for this honor.”

Clinton has been busy since his time out of office "commenced". He has dedicated himself to philanthropy and public service through his foundation , the "William J. Clinton Foundation". He combined power with former President Bush with relief and recovery efforts following the tsunami in Southeast Asia, and was at the forefront of the fundraising efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Small County News- Jefferson County Update

Afternoon Citizens,

There are alot of things that happen in small counties in such a big state like Florida that often get over looked. If you are not aware of the current crisis in my home county of Jefferson,(Just east of Tallahassee) Our school board is admitting to being broke and being taken over by the state. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. The current budget cuts ongoing in the state is now showing its ugly face in the most endangered area. It is upsetting to see where it will strike next.

That gloomy news being said, The Volunteer Fire Dept. I work for was "Re -Christened" today with a full time ambulance service. This will defiantly help our southwest residents and is something that has been in the works for a long time. I am very ecstatic to see it finally come to a grand conclusion. They also announced that the "Life Methods" helicopter will now reside in Jefferson county serving from Leon to Taylor counties. (Thats great news due to the fact of it is quite a lengthy time to wait on the helicopter to come from Leon county when an emergency happens.) We had a great turn out today The Sheriff, David Hobbs made it out as well as the Property Appraiser Angela Grey, County Commissioner Joyner and of course Fire Chief Billberry and the JCFD. Citizens from all over the county made it in for the food and festivities. Its good to see when a county is in such dire straights in one area that the rest of the county can still have positive things happen to it.

"NO SLEEP TILL.........." This Tobacco Bill passes

(WARNING Furyan isn't in the best of moods and is currently on a Bestie Boys kick )

Evenin Citizens,

So certain people who seem to know alot, lets call them "Cancer Specialists" about this thing, lets call it "Cancer", are throwing an idea toward lawmakers in Tallahassee to pass a tax of one dollar tobacco to help fund research for a smokers "Arch Nemesis" cancer. So today, Doctors came from all over the state to show their number of support for this idea. The number this idea, (should it pass)will generate is around eight hundred million for the State.

I only have a few problems with this bill, According to the St. Pete Times writer Mary Ellen Klas, "In an attempt to suppress the sale of tax-free cigarettes sold on Florida's Indian reservations, state senators want the tribe's smokes labeled "Indian cigarettes'' and any non-Indian caught with them forced to pay a $1,000 fine and face misdemeanor charges.

The provision was tacked onto a Senate bill to raise the cigarette tax $1 per pack late Tuesday night. Lawmakers fear that when the tax hike takes effect, buyers will flood Indian reservations to get the lower-priced cigarettes and undercut state tax collections."
"There's some that suggest that maybe our prisons are full of folks because of minor marijuana convictions. Now we're going to have our prisons full of folks that are buying cigarettes?" asked Sen. Carey Baker, a Eustis Republican. "Just wondering what might be the unintended consequences." ( No I am not turning, but it does raise a great point.)

According to Floridatobaccotax.com , "This is not about punishing smokers because of their habit. Smokers have the right to smoke, the same as the Tobacco companies have the right to grow & sell tobacco. By the same token, Floridians have the right not to be forced to subsidize the actions of either group." This Blogger agrees with that statement entirely.

The updated news is the tobacco tax passed unanimously through the Senate last week . The House is not including the increase in its budget proposal. For a state that is looking around every corner for money, and with a few alterations I believe this will be great and a step in the right direction.

"As President, I Will Recognize The Armenian Genocide"

Morning Citizens,

I wanted to pass onto you a note from one of my favorite musicians, Serj Tankian of System of a Down and now solo artist. I as well feel strongly that if we do not learn for history that we are bound to repeat. Please help our "R"evolution of Change continue with the acknowledgment of the Armenian genocide. All we have heard from this campaign is how people will be held accountable for their actions, and President Obama has not given me a reason to not think of him as a man of his word.

" Hello Everyone,

I wanted to let you know that along with the Axis of Justice, I'm launching a campaign to help efforts for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, . The project includes friends and activists such as Tom Morello, Boots Riley, and Congressman Adam Schiff. As you may know, I have spent many years raising awareness about the Armenian Genocide along with the guys from System. Every year that it isn’t recognized is a huge injustice, just one of many in the world. This year is the 94th anniversary of the Armenian genocide and many of the survivors are no longer with us (my grandfather included), yet our voice as a global community for justice has been getting stronger and louder every year. We finally have a President in office who has vowed to recognize the Genocide and now we're asking him to keep his word.

To find out how you can get involved please check out the video below. I also wrote a blog entitled "OUR YEARLY BATTLE OVER THE G-WORD" please take the time to read it, the link is below the youtube link.

If you want to do your part please call (202)456-1414, and leave a message asking President Obama to recognize the atrocities of 1915 against Armenians as Genocide.

Peace,
Serj"

Thank you all,
Furyan

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Well, Here I go.

As of April the 1st (No this isn't a joke) I threw my name into the 2010 race for Jefferson County Commission. I believe that President Obama has started a movement with the youth that cannot stop with this one election. I am a firm believer that now we have this momentous force behind us and it is the young peoples time to shine. Keeping that in mind I started talking to people around me and others that I have worked with in campaign's past. I thought about it and came to the conclusion that it is worth a shot. I dream of a life in public service and I am told by people I wish to follow that I am in the perfect age of life to start. While only being twenty-one, I have surrounded myself and have become very active in the Democratic party from blogging about issues very much important, to working my way up the chain of command from Secretary to Vice President to President of the Tallahassee Community College Democrats. I am currently serving as the President of Political Affairs for the Leon County Young Democrats and am the President of the Jefferson County Democrats. The title that I am most humble of however, is I am the Vice President of the Jefferson County Democratic Party. I feel that I can bring a very charismatic voice to the Commission table for the People of District 4 and would be very grateful for the opportunity. I am aware that there is alot of time between here and the next election and my hope is that I get to meet every person in the district before you go to the polls next year. I hope to hear your dreams and aspirations of all we can make Jefferson county, not by one man but by one voice. I want Jefferson county to be a place that people go off to college and come back too, not abandon forever. I want it to grow and prosper for our children and grand children, give them a place to be proud of when they lay their heads down at night. I will work to preserve our historically agricultural backbone as well as our beautiful and scenic environment. I want to work to help keep the adventurous Wacissa river clean and safe for everybody who wants to view its underwater treasures and enjoy its crisp waters. I want to help those that are trying to help themselves, by not giving a hand out but, offering assistance to those already helping themselves. I am a Volunteer Firefighter for Lloyd Volunteer Fire Rescue and have seen the capacity of people pulling together in times of need. There is never a time when it does not warm my heart and reminds me that there is still that part of America where "Down home" still exists. I hope to represent District Four in the near future and be the open door between you and the Commission.

Sincerely,
Scott. R. Goodlin
